What is your professional background?
As a working journalist for the first 18 years of my career, I covered a lot of “stuff”: drug raids, presidential elections, high-profile court cases, mass shootings, natural disasters and crime of every degree. I thrived on telling stories about people doing extraordinary things — good and bad. My experience as a reporter in Washington, D.C., Spokane, Los Angeles and Des Moines has served me well over the years, especially when I moved into communications and public relations. Finding the “nugget” that makes a client’s story sparkle is what I do best.
What do you like to do outside work?
Give me a twisted thriller novel, let me take long walks with my doggies, and leave me in the kitchen with recipes old and new. I also like to write online reviews for nearly everything in my life. (At one point I was Iowa’s top reviewer on Tripadvisor, and I’m *this close* to earning my Vine status on Amazon.) I love to travel with my husband and twin sons. Finally, I will watch true crime documentaries all day, any day.
What is your dream vacation?
I always dreamed of staying in one of those glass-bottom huts over the water in Bora Bora or Belize. A secluded, soft-sand beach with a boat from which to fish would be heaven.
